High School Prep

In addition to technical and creative challenges, High school applicants often confront their own perfectionism, internal and external pressure, and crises of confidence.

I first look to identify where my students index on these three pillars: technical skill, conceptual skill, and their own relationship to confidence and resilience. A common fourth criteria–the portfolio itself– reflects these three together.

As part of our work together, I offer:

  • Guided Portfolio Preparation

  • Technical Skill Instruction

  • Interview, Confidence, and Written Statement Techniques .

  • Timed Audition Techniques

FAQs

What are some of the schools you prep students for?

I prepare students for audition-only programs nation-wide, be they small or large. Some notable schools include:

  • Fiorello H. LaGuardia HS of Music & Art and Performing Arts (NYC)

  • Frank Sinatra School of the Arts (NYC)

  • High School of Art & Design (NYC)

  • Design and Architecture Senior High (FL)

  • New World School of the Arts (FL

The audition is soon; are we too late?

Plenty of people start preparing last-minute ––it happens! While practice does take time, there are plenty of easy mistakes that last-minute preparation can eliminate, and tip the balance in the final scorecard.

Does my child really need preparation?

Some people do get into art school without training! The point is to maximize our chances of admission and scholarships, while learning to avoid the easy (often unspoken) mistakes that cost applicants points.

Self-guided preparation lacks the perspective and expertise of someone who’s been on both sides of the judges’ score card. Since even the most talented artists benefit from preparation, the real question is: ‘is unguided preparation worth the risk?’
