DASH Visual Arts Audition Prep

Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) is one of Miami-Dade’s most competitive magnet programs, drawing applicants from across the county for its design-centered visual arts curriculum. Unlike generalist arts schools, DASH specifically trains students in design thinking — fashion, architecture, and industrial design disciplines all feed into the program. That means the audition isn’t just looking for students who can draw well. It’s looking for students who can think visually and communicate design intent through their portfolio work.

What to Expect at DASH Auditions

  • Portfolio of 8–10 original works — emphasis on design thinking (fashion, architecture, industrial/product design) [FLAG: verify current preferred portfolio directions with DASH admissions]

  • Observational drawing samples demonstrating ability to draw from life

  • Live drawing assessment on audition day

  • Short written response or essay [FLAG: verify current essay prompt format]
