Dreyfoos School of the Arts Visual Arts Audition Prep
Dreyfoos is one of the most competitive public arts high schools in Florida — and Visual Arts is among its most selective majors. The audition follows an audition-to-lottery model: this means that applicants who reach a minimum qualifying score are entered into a lottery pool, from which accepted students are picked at random. No audition will guarantee admission to the school, but niche preparation will dramatically improve one’s chances of making that qualifying score and lottery pool. Students who make it to Dreyfoos then work with professional equipment, a nationally recognized faculty, and classmates who are dedicated to their craft. The good news: your applicant does not need any fancy materials to apply, but this niche audition does reward niche preparation..
What to Expect at Dreyfoos School of the Arts Auditions
Four audition components required: three of which done the day of the audition.
A still-life drawing using specified objects, completed prior to the audition (I recommend 3+ hours invested)
A time self portrait ~30 minutes
A paper sculpture based on a word given the day of the audition ~30 minutes
A brief timed written artist statement, and interview question ~5 minutes
