New World School of the Arts Visual Arts Audition Prep

New World School of the Arts is unlike most arts high schools. It operates as a joint program between Miami-Dade Public Schools, Miami Dade College, and the University of Florida — which means students in the HS program are embedded in a genuine college arts environment from day one. The visual arts audition reflects that: it’s portfolio-based, live-drawing-intensive, and includes a faculty interview where the panel is assessing not just technique but how students talk about their work. NWSA graduates regularly go on to top BFA programs.

What to Expect at NWSA Auditions

  • Portfolio of 8–10 original pieces across a range of subjects and media

  • Live, timed observational drawing test on audition day

  • Faculty interview — students should be prepared to discuss their work and creative process
